Discovery Learning Center on East Broadway is the "Eastsides Favorite Learning Center." Come by and see for yourself! We serve infants from six weeks to school aged children in third grade. Our school aged children are transported to and from Sewell Elementary School. Children come half or full day, two, three or five days a week. We also offer a stimulating summer program.We place your child according to their age and maturity with an experienced qualified teacher in one of our eight classrooms. We are interested in the whole childs development: emotionally, intellectually, physically and spiritually.We offer a value-based, well-rounded program with art activities, music, story telling, interest centers and the culinary arts. Our "high reach" curriculum includes reading and number readiness.writing, science, and social studies. Small muscle coordination is developed through the use of our many manipulative materials.Our children are divided by age to use our two specially designed shaded playgrounds offering all kinds of activities. There is lots of room for is bike riding, swinging, use of a special western village and elaborate climbing equipment.From the time you enter the school there are large animals to greet you. Each has a name and many come from stories our children have learned about. Ms. Beth, our director of almost twenty years, involves the children in helping to care for the many plants they have planted in the garden out front.We have a specially designed in-the-ground swimming pool where our children three years and older are taught to swim by a certified water safety instructor.We offer a carefully prepared breakfast, lunch, and snack to all of our students. It is a special time when we sit down with our children, sharing and developing good table manners.Discovery is owner operated. The owners, Roy and Joan Mills, have owned Discovery over 30 years. Before that Joan taught grades Kindergarten through 4th grade in the public schools and Roy and Joan ran a child care center 10 years on the east coast.Many of our staff members have children of their own. They are carefully chosen mature adults who are experienced working with young children.Our center has different programs available for your child:* All day program* Half day program* Extended care* Swimming instruction
